Sustainability Weekend Poster
Sustainability Weekend Conference Poster
This is a poster design I created for Carnegie Mellon University’s 2018 Sustainability Weekend Conference. I really enjoyed working on this project, because I enjoy projects with a local focus, as well as those that are inspired by geography (even if highly abstracted!)
Because this was a rushed commission, I don’t have much process to show but a few insights are below.
After meeting and brainstorming with the stakeholders, we identified a few key communication goals and sources of inspiration for the design:
Make the poster a distinct showcase of the local Pittsburgh area and its community.
Lots of color.
Communicate the idea of sustainability—not just ecological, but also sustainable systems and communities.
The poster needed to double both as an advertisement and as an agenda.
Inspiration: layered paper art.
I started by using paper to play with composition and color. my idea was to create abstracted, diagonal layers of a landscape.
After arriving at a preliminary color palette, I moved into Adobe Illustrator to play with different compositions digitally, and started incorporating type.
After receiving feedback, I made additional changes and arrived at a final draft by tweaking the typography and color palette.
